Reed unveils plan to create U.S. energy independence

U.S. Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) presented his plan for increased energy security late last week.

The proposal, called “A Plan for America’s Energy Future,” is simply that. The plan is centered on eliminating U.S. dependence on crude oil from the Middle East and establishing strong, sustainable sources of energy for the years to come.

“Energy Security is good for America,” Reed said. “Our plan will take an all-of-the-above approach, using every resource we have right here at home to end our dependence on oil, all while creating good jobs, close to home. As a nation of innovators, I’m confident that we can do just that.”

The program is a comprehensive approach to ensuring energy security. It examines the use of all types of existing energy resources (including wind, solar, oil, natural gas, and others), while also keeping utility costs affordable for families, improving the efficiency of all energy sources, training the workforce for new energy-related jobs, reducing regulations on U.S. businesses, encouraging the research and development of innovative technology, and making changes to energy policy within the federal government.

“I care about making sure we lead and carry our nation forward,” Reed said. “We can’t depend on a single energy source, and it’s vital we make every effort to find solutions to our dependence on Middle Eastern crude oil. With that in mind, we have a huge opportunity to create jobs here at home, and discover the next big thing.”
