Virginia congresswoman updates constituents on issues

In a letter, U.S. Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA) issued the following statement to her constituents.

“Thank you for signing up for the Comstock Connection,” Comstock said in the statement. “This summer has been very busy for us. Below, you will see what we have done legislatively, as well as the meetings we have had on Capitol Hill and our travels throughout the district.

“Stay tuned for more information in our next newsletter about our August District Work Period, in addition to a special update on the Iran deal that Congress will take up in September,” Comstock said. “As always, it is an honor to serve the 10th District of Virginia.

“Please be aware that the IRS has reported a scam circulating in our area,” Comstock said. ” If you receive a call from people purporting to be IRS agents saying they are taking action against you, be careful and do not give them any personal information. Click here to report them to the authorities.

“I recently voted for the 21st Century Cures Act, which presents a national vision and major opportunity to advance better detections, management and cures of chronic diseases, as well as to improve the quality of life for our fellow Americans,” Comstock said. “Investment in 21st Century Cures provides our country the ability to get new life-saving treatments to those who need them. I was glad to co-sponsor this bill.

“Federally funded medical research is vital in order to gain a better understanding of diseases, develop early-detection tools and find more effective treatments and cures,” Comstock said. “A treatment that delays the onset of Alzheimer’s by just five years is projected to decrease the total costs of the disease by a third, or $367 billion by 2050. I thank my colleagues for supporting this bill.”

Comstock was elected in November 2014 to represent Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. Comstock currently serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; Science, Space and Technology Committee, in which she serves as chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Research and Technology; and the House Administration Committee.
