U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) hosted town-hall-style meetings with health care professionals across Missouri last week to discuss concerns and issues the medical community is facing in Missouri.
Blunt hosted seven health-care-provider forums in Springfield, Joplin, Jefferson City, Hannibal, Kirksville, St. Joseph and Kansas City.
“As I traveled across our state last week, I learned a great deal from Missourians about the health care challenges they face, including how burdensome regulations make it harder for doctors to do their job,” Blunt said. “I look forward to continuing my work with health care providers to ensure that patients are getting the best care possible and have access to affordable, quality health care.”
Blunt met with doctors, nurses and administrators at the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital at Cox Medical Center South; held a health care forum with physicians, nurses and executives at Freeman Hospital; toured and hosted a discussion at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital to discuss issues facing the local community in Jefferson City; and met with administrators at Missouri’s Child Advocacy Center.
Blunt introduced the bipartisan Excellence in Mental Health Act, which aims to significantly strengthen the nation’s mental health services by expanding access to community mental health treatment and improving the quality of care for those living with mental illness.
Blunt has represented the State of Missouri in the U.S. Senate since 2011. Born in Niangua, Missouri in 1950, Blunt previously served in the U.S. House from 1997 to 2011. Blunt was educated at Southwest Baptist University and serves on the following committees: Appropriations; Commerce, Science and Transportation; Rules and Administration (chairman); and Intelligence.
