Patients, advocates gather to discuss next steps for 21st Century Cares

U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-NJ) hosted a roundtable discussion, inviting patients, advocates and other stakeholders to his Flemington, New Jersey district office on Friday to strategize ways to encourage Senate passage of the 21st Century Cures Act.

The bipartisan 21st Century Cures Act, which Lance helped create as part of his membership on the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, passed the House earlier this summer.

“Millions await the life-saving medicines the Cures Act will bring to the market,” Lance told the group of stakeholders at his office. “We saw a tremendous victory in House passage of this critical measure, but now we need to focus our efforts on movement in the Senate.”

During the hearing, Lance urged patients and advocates to reach out to U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Cory Booker (D-NJ), asking for their support for the passing of measure in the Senate. Those in attendance at the roundtable also worked to develop a media plan and agreed to promote each of their personal testimonials in order to call attention to the pending legislation.

“I thank all the patients and advocates for their devotion to this great cause, but our work is not yet complete,” Lance continued.
