Boustany supports investigation of Planned Parenthood

In the wake of the shocking video that surfaced last week showing a Planned Parenthood official discussing harvesting organs and tissue from fetuses the organization has aborted, Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA) has submitted a letter to the leadership of the House Energy & Commerce Committee and House Judiciary Committee supporting the calls for a full Congressional investigation into the practices of the abortion provider, looking specifically into the concerns regarding the trafficking of fetal tissue.

Last Wednesday, the House Energy & Commerce Committee and House Judiciary Committee both announced that they would begin a formal Congressional investigation into the issue. Boustany’s letter essentially offers thanks to the leadership of the Committees for their action and offered his support for the investigation.

“As a doctor, I’m shocked and disgusted by the video of a Planned Parenthood official that raises serious ethical questions about the organization’s possible participation in fetal tissue trafficking,” Boustany said. “Not only is this practice illegal, it’s barbaric and callous. The American people have a right to the truth behind this video.

“I’m demanding a congressional investigation into Planned Parenthood’s practices,” Boustany concluded, “and my colleagues and I will fight to get to the bottom of this.”

Boustany has represented Louisiana’s 3rd District since 2005. He serves on the Committee on Ways and Means.
