Scalise applauds House passage of Ratepayer Protection Act

In the wake of House passage of H.R. 2042, the Ratepayer Protection Act, U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), the House majority whip, released a statement to reiterate his support for the measure, which was crafted to protect the integrity of electricity rates for U.S. citizens by allowing states to block unnecessary regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that could result in higher energy costs.

“As hard-working families continue to struggle with stagnant wages and a slow economic recovery, the last thing they need are more radical regulations from unelected bureaucrats at the EPA that will increase household electricity costs,” Scalise said. “But higher energy costs and lost American jobs are exactly what will happen if unelected bureaucrats at President Obama’s EPA are allowed to move forward with their latest attack on American power plants. Today’s strong bipartisan vote protects hard-working taxpayers by allowing states to act in the best interests of their people and block this EPA proposal from imposing unnecessary economic hardship on families and businesses across America.”

“I commend (Subcommittee on Energy and Power) Chairman (Ed) Whitfield (R-KY) on his commitment to protecting the American people from the Obama administration’s heavy-handed government overreach,” Scalise said.
