Congressman from heavily commercial district promotes trade legislation

U.S. Rep. Robert Dold (R-IL) released a statement on Friday to stress the importance of trade opportunities amid recent House posturing and votes on trade-centered legislation, including a measure to grant the president Trade Promotion Authority.

“As a small-business owner, and the representative for the fourth-largest manufacturing district in the country, I understand how important it is to increase trade opportunities and help our local manufacturers reach the 96 percent of customers who live outside the United States,” Dold said. “We should all be able to unite in bipartisan fashion around a common-sense agenda that fosters job creation by promoting American trade. Trade Promotion Authority is central to empowering our small businesses to succeed in today’s global economy, so I pledge to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle toward a bipartisan solution to this critical issue.”

Dold serves on the
House Ways and Means Committee, which deals with trade-related issues.
Trade supports over 50,000 jobs in Dold’s 10th district in Illinois, and
companies in that area export over $6 billion in goods and services
every year.
