Amendments would help vets find jobs, rollback carbon tax

Amendments introduced by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) on Thursday aim to help veterans find jobs and protect the middle class from the effects of a carbon tax.

The Hire More Heroes Amendment, which Blunt previously introduced as a standalone bill, would encourage companies to hire more veterans and provide relief from the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandate, according to a press release.

The Carbon Tax Amendment would prevent the EPA from finalizing new regulations on energy producers unless it can be proven that the regulations would not lead to job losses, economic costs, higher electricity costs or diminished electricity reliability.

“These amendments would help create more good-paying jobs and economic opportunities for American veterans, as well as low- and middle-class families in Missouri and nationwide,” Blunt said. “If Democrats were really serious about helping the Americans who are struggling to find work and make ends meet, they would join Republicans in taking action on these commonsense, job-creating measures.”

Blunt recently joined a number of fellow legislators in urging President Obama to rollback an EPA effort to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants.

He introduced the measures as amendments to the Bring Jobs Home Act, which would end tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas, the Hill reports.
