Governor of North Carolina Pat McCrory recently told the Ripon Forum that his goal as governor is to implement a collaborative, systematic approach to everything his administration does.
McCrory, who served as mayor of Charlotte for 14 years, said that his job as governor is not to replicate the success he saw in that city statewide but to make every part of the state successful on its own. One change that has come from that approach is a 25 year transportation bill meant to connect small towns to the centers of commerce statewide.
Tax reform has also been central to North Carolina’s economic comeback, including the implementation of a competitive tax structure that allows the state to lure job creators seeking a high quality of life, good education system and business-friendly culture.
McCrory has also joined the Outer Continental Shelf Governors Coalition that advocates to the federal government for the opening up of waters for domestic exploration. North Carolina is also pursuing the exploration and extraction of the state’s shale oil reserves.
“North Carolina must get more deeply involved into energy production and that includes renewables, which have enjoyed robust growth in this state,” McCrory said.
