Johnson unveils his Energy 2020 initiative

Rep. Bill Johnson (R-Ohio) recently launched a national energy plan, Energy 2020, that he named after the year he said he believes America can be energy independent.

Johnson said his energy policy is an all-American, all-of-the-above energy vision that puts the country on the path to energy independence and security.

“We don’t take anything off the table,” Johnson said on the House floor on Wednesday. “We harvest and explore all of our energy options, not stifle them. We do this through real regulatory reform, cutting red tape and empowering private market innovation.”

The plan requires regulatory agencies to become partners in progress with America’s industries and businesses. It also pushes regulatory agencies to find answers to projects and technologies related to energy resources that have been deemed unsafe.

“If a venture is dangerous or environmentally unsafe, then say ‘no,'” Johnson said. “But the key is, ‘no’ can’t be the final answer.”

The details for Energy2020 will be released through a series of videos, with the first official video already available on Johnson’s official YouTube channel. The six-minute video explains why people should care about adopting an “all-of-the-above” energy vision.

Johnson’s plan has support from Republican leaders, including House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Fred Upton (R-Mich.).

“I am proud to stand behind Mr. Johnson’s bold and pragmatic vision to achieve energy independence by 2020,” Rodgers said. “Not only does his plan promote economic growth and the expansion of American business; but it will create jobs all across America and advance the production of domestic energy at a time when we need it most.”
