Neugebauer issues statement on National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program

Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-Texas) recently released a statement in response to a House subcommittee’s approval for his proposed bill, the National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program.

The Science Subcommittee on Research and Technology approved the bill in a voice vote on Friday. The bill would reduce damage and lives lost from windstorms and aims to ensure smart and efficient use of taxpayer dollars.

Severe windstorms, wind-driven hail, flying debris and tornado damage results in billions of dollars in damage every year, according to the National Storm Damage Centers.

“I’m really pleased that the Subcommittee on Research and Technology passed my bill to help reduce windstorm damage,” Neugebauer said. “The National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program promotes research that can save lives, reduce injuries and lessen damage from windstorms. This legislation is first and foremost an effort to ensure smart and efficient use of taxpayer dollars. It clarifies research priorities and enhances coordination between agencies.”

Neugebauer said the bill provides greater transparency to taxpayers and helps reduce costly recovery efforts.

In his statement, Neugebauer also applauded Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.), the chairman of the subcommittee, for his leadership on the vote.

The Committee on Science, Space and Technology will next hear the proposed bill.
