Blunt co-sponsors bill to block funding for Obama executive orders on immigration

Speaking harshly against President Barack Obama’s recent executive order actions on immigration, U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) announced last week that he is co-sponsoring a bill introduced to block funding for the orders.

“I’m pleased to co-sponsor this bill, which would stop President Obama’s lawless immigration power grab,” Blunt said. “I’ll continue to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to fight against the president’s executive amnesty and his blatant disregard for the law and the Constitution.”

The legislation, introduced by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), would prohibit any federal agencies from using funds to “implement, administer, enforce, or carry out” any amnesty mandates that have been given by way of an executive memo. The bill would also prevent any undocumented immigrants benefiting from an executive order from gaining work authorization.

The House version of the bill was also introduced last week by U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-AL).

Blunt continues to establish himself as the leader in the fight against the president’s new immigration policies. He has released statements encouraging voters to communicate with the White House to speak out against the actions and has publicly confronted Obama about the orders, calling them “dangerous” and “illegal.”
