House to vote on Hire More Heroes Act again in 2015

The Hire More Heroes Act, introduced by U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) stalled in the Senate earlier this year, but will be voted on again in the House when the 114th Congress convenes in January.

With Republicans gaining control of the Senate, there’s more hope the bill will pass. Under the proposed law, businesses that hire veterans receiving health coverage through the Departments of Defense or Veterans Affairs would not need to count them toward the 50-employee cap for the Affordable Care Act.

“Don’t double-count people who are getting health care through the federal government. Make sure that those small employers have a chance to look at our heroes and give any incentive to them that we can to make sure they get that job,” Davis said.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced on his blog (www.majorityleader.gov) that he intends to reintroduce the bill.

“Come January, at the beginning of the new Congress, the House will pass the Hire More Heroes Act again, sending it back to the Senate so that it can finally reach the president’s desk,” McCarthy said. “(The bill) makes sure no employers are penalized for hiring a veteran and that no veteran is left jobless because of Obamacare’s employer mandate.”
