Lance helps shepherd commerce, energy bills into laws

Reflecting on the most recent session of Congress, Rep. Leonard Lance (R-N.J.) told the Ripon Advance he is most proud of his work as a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

“The Energy and Commerce Committee is a legislative workhorse,” Lance said, noting it advanced more than 70 bills in the House and dealt with the country’s biggest challenges.

The jurisdiction of the committee includes energy and environmental policy, public health, telecommunications, consumer protection, trade and other areas.

“What these issues have in common is their consequence for the American economy — from individual family budgets to major nationwide investments,” Lance said.

This committee is the most productive in Congress, having shepherded more bills on to laws than any other committee in the House or Senate.

In the 113th Congress, the committee helped get more than two dozen bills passed. One was a mental health and pediatric care initiative authored by Lance.

“The work of the Energy and Commerce Committee is at the center of congressional efforts to create jobs and spur economic growth, build a modern, ‘all-of-the-above’ energy infrastructure, and protect middle-class families, communities and civic initiatives,” Lance said. “I am most proud to be part of these efforts.”
