The U.S. House Appropriations Committee on June 3 voted 34-27 to approve fiscal year 2027 funds for the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2027, which has advanced to the full chamber for consideration.
U.S. Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), House Appropriations Committee Chairman, and U.S. Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR), chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee, applauded the markup and action, highlighting the bill’s benefits for Americans.
“America’s future will be shaped not only by what we envision, but by what we build,” Rep. Cole said, noting that the bill invests in modernized infrastructure, mobility, and community priorities that will keep the nation moving forward.
“Whether on our highways, in our ports, across our waterways, or through our skies, the measure reinforces the networks that keep America safely connected and competitive,” said Rep. Cole. “It further supports local development efforts and assistance for vulnerable Americans, ensuring communities have the resources to grow, adapt, and thrive.”
With this action, the committee has now advanced nine FY 2027 appropriations bills, “continuing to move both the appropriations process and the nation’s priorities forward through regular order,” the congressman added.
The Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, 2027 would provide a total discretionary allocation of more than $92.2 billion, which is $10.6 billion (10.4 percent) below the FY 2026 enacted level.
Among its many provisions, the 230-page bill would invest in transportation safety by providing $22.7 billion for the Federal Aviation Administration to hire 2,300 new air traffic controllers and replace dated telecommunication infrastructure; support vulnerable citizens by providing $3.3 billion for the Community Development Block Grant program, $60 million for the Self-Help and Assisted Homeownership Opportunities Program, and $500 million for the HOME Investment Partnerships program; and bolster U.S. national security and border protections by providing $92 million for new U.S. Department of Transportation cybersecurity infrastructure initiatives, among many others.
“America’s outstanding level of mobility and housing affordability has long set our nation apart and represents key components of the American Dream,” said Rep. Womack, who led the measure. “My fiscal year 2027 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development funding bill builds on that reputation of excellence by investing in the modernization of our national airspace system, providing resources to properly maintain and improve our roads, bridges, and railways, and giving vulnerable Americans the resources they need to keep a roof over their heads — setting them up for future success.”
The proposed bill also would make numerous investments in his congressional district, the congressman said.
“From water systems to bridges and highways, this legislation brings Third District taxpayer dollars back home to strengthen infrastructure as our region continues to grow,” he said.
