Hill urges Trump to provide relief from onerous regulations

In a determined effort to stem the tide of oppressive regulations from federal agencies, U.S. Rep. French Hill (R-AR) urged President-elect Donald Trump to target regulatory relief that will spur economic growth.

Federal agencies under President Obama have issued about 600 major regulations at a cost to taxpayers of more than $100 million each, Hill said. The increased regulation and compliance costs have disproportionately impacted small businesses and hurt middle-income jobs, especially in the energy industry.

“Even in the waning moments of his presidency, President Obama still wants to press forward with the regulatory proposals that have stymied economic growth over the past eight years,” Hill said.

“This type of deafness to the negative effects of the administration’s burdensome regulatory policy is – in large part – what galvanized the American people to overwhelmingly support the pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda of House Republicans,” he added.

Hill criticized Obama’s recently released regulatory agenda, which details the additional regulations the president plans to propose before leaving office in January.

Hill asked Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence in a letter to create a Task Force on Regulatory Relief to assess the vast number of costly regulations on the books and propose regulatory reform.

“With your election, we have the unique opportunity to effectively review our existing federal regulations and implement common sense proposals to restore our economy, provide more jobs for hardworking Americans, and revitalize our communities,” Hill wrote.
