Young highlights resources to protect against fraud, hacks, identity theft

During a telephone town hall with seniors on Tuesday, U.S. Rep. David Young (R-IA) highlighted the resources that are available to help protect Americans from fraud, scams and identity theft.

Young founded the Bipartisan Congressional Task Force to Combat Identity Theft and Fraud earlier this year. The task force’s mission is to protect all Americans from hackers, scammers, thieves and fraudsters by developing and implementing commonsense solutions that ensure personal security and enhance punishment for offenders.

“I hear too often from folks about their experiences with scams and fraud, or stories about someone they know, which is why continued conversations about these threats are so important for Iowans in the third congressional district,” Young said.

Young hosted the town hall with Al Perales, an investigator with the Iowa Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division, to provide seniors with information about fraud and scams.

“These crimes are far reaching and personal, and they stand to affect everyone, especially our seniors,” Young said. “I’m pleased Al could join me and lend his expertise while discussing these crimes, because the best way to stay protected is to stay informed and alert.”

The Bipartisan Congressional Task Force to Combat Identity Theft and Fraud continually provides resources about crime prevention information on emergent scams and fraudulent practices through a web portal.

U.S Reps. Mike Bishop (R-MI), Carlos Curbelo (R-FL), Bob Dold (R-IL), Tom Emmer (R-MN), John Katko (R-NY), Martha McSally (R-AZ), John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) are members of the task force.
