U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX) on Monday applauded the inclusion of language from his Military Family Readiness Act in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2021.
“Family readiness is directly tied to overall military readiness. Including these ideas in this year’s draft of the NDAA is important,” said Rep. Thornberry, ranking member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee. “As members of Congress we have a long history of putting partisan differences aside to support our troops and their families.”
Rep. Thornberry and U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly (R-MS) in April introduced a discussion draft of their bill to improve military family readiness via better communication with military families, as well as improvements to childcare access, healthcare and to the Exceptional Family Member Program.
Nearly all of their provisions are included in the U.S. House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee’s portion of the NDAA, H.R. 6395, which is under consideration in several House Armed Services subcommittees.
