Stauber asks Biden to support American energy

U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN) last week requested that President Joe Biden stick to his campaign promises to prioritize and promote American energy as a key component of the nation’s economic and energy security.

“By cancelling the Keystone Pipeline and banning leasing on federal lands, President Biden has managed to eliminate American energy independence within the span of just seven months,” Rep. Stauber said in an Aug. 16 statement. “Gas prices continue to skyrocket as a result, and now, President Biden is asking countries like Saudi Arabia to bail him out. The president must be fully transparent as to why he insists on putting America last.”

The congressman said Biden also should explain why he continues to rely on the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) nations “rather than empowering American workers to develop these resources under the strongest environmental and labor standards in the world.”

Rep. Stauber reiterated his stance in an Aug. 13 letter he sent to President Biden, noting that American development of oil and gas is the cleanest and safest in the world.

“Why are you choosing foreign workers and foreign energy? Why do you refuse to put the American worker and American energy independence first? How are these policies put forward in your short time in the Office of the President helping this country?” wrote Rep. Stauber, who currently serves as the ranking member of the U.S. House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Energy and Natural Resources. “The American people deserve to know.”
