Scalise, Walorski appointed to House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis

U.S. House Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) and U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) last week were appointed as ranking member and member, respectively, of the newly formed U.S. House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis.

“Democrats want to use the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis to pin this global pandemic on President Trump,” Rep. Scalise said. “We cannot let that blatant partisanship and cynicism happen.”

Rep. Scalise said that the subcommittee has prioritized three main areas of concern to focus on: holding the Chinese government accountable for hiding the truth about COVID-19 and allowing the disease to spread; helping ensure the success of the largest relief effort in American history; and providing clear and immediate guidance on how to safely reopen the U.S. economy.

“American workers and families want to see our plan to safely reopen the country and rebuild our great economy,” said Rep. Scalise. “Under President Trump’s leadership, our work on the subcommittee can help show people how we can use safer and smarter approaches to reopen our country and our economy.”

Rep. Walorski agreed, saying Americans deserve bipartisan cooperation to address the many challenges the nation faces.

“America is facing a crisis unlike any in our lifetimes, but together we will defeat this invisible enemy and make our country stronger than ever before,” Rep. Walorski said. “Our top priorities in Congress must be protecting the health and safety of the American people and working to safely reopen our nation’s economy.”

Rep. Walorski said China should be held accountable “for hiding the truth about the coronavirus outbreak, ensuring the success of unprecedented relief efforts, and providing clear guidance on how to safely and responsibly restart our economy.”

“I look forward to getting to work,” she said.
