Ribble, Moulton introduce Iran resolution

A comprehensive, bipartisan resolution on Iran was announced on Wednesday by U.S. Reps. Reid Ribble (R-WI) and Seth Moulton (D-MA).

The three-part Iran Deal Implementation and Accountability Act provides a path forward for the U.S., as well as the international community, on implementing the Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, while reaffirming the relationship between the U.S. and Israel and countering destabilizing Iranian action.

“We owe it to our kids and grandkids not only to ensure that Iran doesn’t acquire nuclear weapons in the short term, but also to lay the groundwork for a safe and secure future for the U.S. and our regional allies,” Ribble said. “The Iran Deal Implementation and Accountability Act is a forward-looking resolution that charts a path forward with Iran, Israel, and our allies around the world.”

The legislation calls on Congress, the president and international partners to make sure that the State Department, Treasury Department and the International Atomic Energy Agency have the tools necessary for inspection and implementation of the Iran deal.

U.S. support for Israel is also pledged in the resolution, which seeks to provide Israel with expanded tools for defense through intelligence and counterterrorism support, as well as missile defense, against the region’s destabilizing forces.

Additionally, the resolution calls on the international community and President Barack Obama to remain committed to countering the harmful actions of Iran throughout the Middle East and worldwide.

“We need a clear-eyed, bipartisan approach to make sure the Iran deal is strictly implemented and that we continue to support our allies in the region while countering Iran’s destabilizing actions,” Moulton said. “Our resolution maps out an effective path forward for the U.S. and international community for the months and years to come.”
