Portman coordinates Cardinal Health’s gown donation to Strategic National Stockpile

U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) recently assisted in the donation of roughly 2.2 million new gowns from Ohio-based Cardinal Health to the Strategic National Stockpile.

“I will continue to do anything I can to ensure our healthcare professionals have everything they need to do their important work,” Sen. Portman said on April 1.

The senator worked with the White House, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to help facilitate the Cardinal Health donation, which HHS subsequently authorized for use as non-surgical isolation apparel.

“Health care professionals across the country are in desperate need for personal protective equipment which is why I was happy to help Cardinal Health connect with the appropriate contacts in the administration as it sought approval to donate approximately 2.2 million new gowns to the Strategic National Stockpile,” said Sen. Portman. “Now that they have received federal approval, these gowns will be used as non-surgical isolation apparel to help protect our hard-working health care professionals as they work on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic.”

Sen. Portman commended Cardinal Health and President Donald Trump and his team for their assistance in making the donation a reality.
