Nonpartisan analysis finds that “A Better Way” would improve nation’s healthcare system

U.S. Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) touted a nonpartisan analysis on Thursday that found that House Republicans’ “A Better Way” policy agenda would improve the nation’s healthcare system.

A Center for Health and the Economy (H&E) analysis found that “A Better Way” proposals would lower premiums, increase access to doctors and providers, and foster greater medical productivity.

“We have a better way for health care that puts patients first, improves quality of care, lowers health care costs, and restores freedom and flexibility,” Upton, the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said.

H&E concluded that the “A Better Way” proposals would lead to one million more people having health insurance in 2018, and that premiums would drop anywhere from 10-35 percent from current levels.

“We want to lead the world in cures and treatments, and our plan builds upon the important work of 21st Century Cures to help deliver cures now,” Upton said. “Everyone in Michigan and across America deserves access to quality, affordable healthcare.”

The analysis also found that medical productivity would increase by approximately seven percent and access to providers by four percent under the plan’s patient-centered proposals.

The analysis concluded that “A Better Way” would provide more choices and lower costs when picking health plans, protections that ensure people don’t get denied insurance, and less red tape that otherwise slows medical innovation.
