U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) on July 13 joined 56 Republicans to introduce a resolution expressing support for the Cuban people and their struggle for freedom, democracy and human rights.
“Socialism and communism never work, and it is imperative that we reject these systems in the harshest terms,” said Rep. Newhouse. “I stand with the Cuban people as they fight for their own freedom against the oppressive Communist dictatorship they live under.”
House Resolution 529, which Rep. Newhouse cosponsored with bill sponsor U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) and 55 other original GOP cosponsors, calls for the U.S. House of Representatives to stand in solidarity with the people of Cuba and their fight to achieve freedom, democracy and human rights.
“The Cuban protests remind us of the liberties we have and hold so dear: liberties our forefathers gave their lives to attain and our men and women in uniform protect every day,” Rep. Newhouse said. “We cannot take these freedoms for granted.”
The resolution has been referred for consideration to the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee.
