U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) on Monday said he has been named assistant whip, tasked with helping to mobilize Republican votes in support of conservative priorities in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“It’s an honor to be selected as a @HouseGOP Assistant Whip for the 117th Congress,” Rep. Newhouse tweeted on Jan. 26.
Rep. Newhouse, who since 2015 has represented Washington State’s 4th District in Congress, serves as chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus. In addition, on the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Newhouse serves on the subcommittees on Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies, Homeland Security, and the Legislative Branch.
“The priorities of central Washington — and the West at large — are distinct to the unique challenges facing rural America,” said Rep. Newhouse in a statement. “As part of the whip team, I will be an active voice on behalf of our nation’s rural and agricultural communities, working to ensure our Republican Conference understands the negative impacts of the Democrats’ partisan policies.”
