Newhouse honored to receive PNWA’s Legislator of the Year award

Rep. Dan Newhouse

The Pacific Northwest Waterways Association (PNWA) on Oct. 9 named U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) Legislator of the Year, honoring his significant efforts to support regional waterways commerce, economic development and navigation infrastructure.

“It is truly an honor to receive this award, and I look forward to continuing to work with PNWA as a partner in protecting and promoting the benefits of our rivers and waterways,” Rep. Newhouse said in accepting the award during PNWA’s annual convention held in Vancouver, Wash.

Rep. Newhouse said the area’s river system is vital to residents’ way of life in central Washington and the Pacific Northwest, providing “affordable and reliable electricity provided by our dams to the barging and transportation options for agricultural producers.”

PNWA Executive Director Kristin Meira said the organization is thankful for Rep. Newhouse’s leadership.

“Congressman Newhouse has been one of the most vocal supporters of renewable hydropower and reliable, efficient inland navigation in our congressional delegation, prominently highlighting the Columbia Snake River System in hearings, press conferences and other venues in his district and the nation’s capital,” said Meira in presenting him with the award.
