National Park Week designation measure offered by Daines, Young passes Senate

The U.S. Senate on April 16 passed a bipartisan resolution cosponsored by U.S. Sens. Steve Daines (R-MT), Todd Young (R-IN), and 61 of their colleagues to establish April 20-28 as National Park Week.

“Montana is home to some of the world’s best and most beautiful national parks, recreation areas, battlefields and historic sites,” said Sen. Daines, the lead original cosponsor of Senate Resolution 645.

“Preserving these treasures means preserving the beauty and history that sets us apart, which is why each year we mark this week National Park Week,” the senator added. “I’ll always work to preserve our parks for future generations to explore and enjoy.”

If enacted, the Senate under the resolution would resolve to also encourage Americans and the world to responsibly visit, experience, recreate in, and support the treasured national parks, according to the resolution’s text.

“Hoosiers are proud of the Indiana Dunes National Park, which serves as a great example of the vast landscapes, wildlife, and history that national parks offer throughout our country,” Sen. Young said. “During National Park Week, we celebrate the Indiana Dunes National Park and America’s great outdoors.”

The resolution, which U.S. Sen. Angus King, Jr. (I-ME) sponsored on April 16 alongside 63 original cosponsors, including Sens. Daines and Young.
