Miller introduces bill to support local transportation companies

U.S. Rep. Carol Miller (R-WV) on Tuesday sponsored legislation that aims to address a shortage of vehicles available to small businesses that provide transportation services.

Rep. Miller introduced the Small Business Transportation Investment Act, H.R. 7548, which would create a new program within the General Service Administration’s Fleet Vehicle Sales Program to sell surplus government motor vehicles to small businesses that provide ground transportation service.

“The Small Business Transportation Investment Act will help local transportation companies stay in business while providing jobs to workers and mobility to the public,” Rep. Miller said.

The congresswoman noted the negative impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on the passenger ground transportation industry, causing a shortage of transportation services across the nation.

“This bill will require the GSA to set aside half of the annual inventory of government vehicles it auctions to the public for purchase by small businesses, ensuring the success of local companies throughout the United States,” Rep. Miller said.

The legislation is under consideration in the House Oversight and Accountability Committee.
