Make American Flags in America Act offered by Balderson

U.S. Rep. Troy Balderson (R-OH) on Flag Day, June 14, cosponsored a bipartisan bill that would require American flags displayed on federal property or purchased by federal agencies to be 100-percent manufactured in the United States from American-made materials.

“Flying American flags on federal property that are 100-percent made in America is common sense,” Rep. Balderson said. “I am proud to support this bill, which would showcase the craftsmanship of America’s flag makers and support businesses here at home.”

Rep. Balderson signed on as one of 28 original cosponsors of the Make American Flags in America Act of 2023, H.R. 4137, which is sponsored by U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY). Other original cosponsors include U.S. Reps. Greg Steube (R-FL), Mike Turner (R-OH), John Moolenaar (R-MI), Carol Miller (R-WV), Mark Amodei (R-NV), and Greg Landsman (D-OH).

“The American flag represents so much — our nation’s history, and our future to come,” Rep. Landsman said. “It’s right that our flags be manufactured here in America.”

If enacted, H.R. 4137 also would require the Federal Trade Commission to conduct a study on the enforcement and violations of country-of-origin labeling requirements for American flags sold in the U.S. to ensure integrity of American-made products for consumers, according to a bill summary provided by the lawmakers.
