Latta proposes resolution for achieving full U.S. energy security

U.S. Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH) proposes a resolution expressing the sense of Congress that the United States should support, and not limit access to, all domestic energy sources in an effort to achieve full energy security.

“Thanks to America’s energy renaissance, more oil and natural gas are being produced domestically than by any other nation in the world,” Rep. Latta said on Sept. 26. “While this is good news, the fact that the United States still imports 29 percent of all its petroleum from OPEC countries is a sign that our government should be doing everything we can to support all domestic sources of energy development in an effort to achieve full energy security.”

Rep. Latta’s resolution encourages continued technological innovation and adoption of an all-of-the-above domestic energy approach, according to the congressman’s office.

According to the text of the resolution, provided by Rep. Latta’s office, the U.S. should support all domestic energy sources in an effort to achieve full energy security by:

  • Encouraging technological innovations to exploit America’s vast supply of natural gas;
  • Increasing domestic oil production, infrastructure and refining capacity of the U.S.;
  • Exploring and investing in the current nuclear power fleet and advanced nuclear reactor technologies;
  • Taking advantage of the U.S. domestic coal supply through processes such as carbon capture, utilization and storage;
  • Expanding use of renewable and alternative energy sources;
  • Supporting additional research and development opportunities through new and innovative methods, including public-private partnerships;
  • Promoting increased conservation and energy efficiency; and
  • Enhancing consumer awareness and education regarding domestic energy use, supply and development.
