Lake Tahoe Basin funding sought under Amodei bill

U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei (R-NV) on May 12 sponsored bipartisan, bicameral legislation that would reauthorize $415 million in funding through Sept. 30, 2034 to reduce the threat of wildfires, improve water clarity, combat invasive species, and restore the environment in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

“Anyone who has experienced Lake Tahoe’s exceptional beauty understands the importance of preserving this national treasure for future generations,” said Rep. Amodei. “In order to do so, we must continue making the lake a priority by responsibly investing in management solutions that will preserve its unique environment, our local economy and the community’s quality of life.”

The Lake Tahoe Restoration Reauthorization Act, H.R. 3132, which Rep. Amodei introduced with four original cosponsors, including U.S. Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA), would reauthorize and build upon the original Lake Tahoe Restoration Act signed into law in November 2000, which prompted significant investments in the health of Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Basin.

“Our legislation upholds this federal commitment by continuing to focus on the key priorities that will prevent imminent threats and combat invasive species in the region,” Rep. Amodei said. “I’m proud to once again team up with the entire Nevada delegation and my colleagues from California on this important bipartisan initiative and look forward to continuing to work together to protect the Tahoe Basin.”

H.R. 3132 is supported by the bi-state Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, the Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, and the League to Save Lake Tahoe, also known as Keep Tahoe Blue.
