Joyce, Wicker offer resolution honoring America’s nurses

U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH) and U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) on May 7 introduced a bipartisan, bicameral resolution supporting the goals and ideals of National Nurses Week, which would be observed May 6-12.

“As the proud husband of a nurse, I’ve seen the dedication and compassion nurses provide for their patients firsthand,” said Rep. Joyce, a co-chair of the Congressional Nursing Caucus. “I’m proud to join my colleagues in celebrating National Nurses Week and ask everyone in Ohio to join me in thanking the health care heroes in our communities for all that they have done and continue to do.”

“I joined colleagues in introducing a resolution recognizing National Nurses Week,” Sen. Wicker posted May 8 on X, formerly Twitter. “This resolution honors nurses for a special week of recognition, but they are loved by Americans year round. We need more of them. Call your favorite nurse today.”

Sen. Wicker is the lead original cosponsor of Senate Resolution 676, which is sponsored by U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR), while Rep. Joyce sponsored House Resolution 1208 alongside lead cosponsor U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR).

If enacted, the resolution would honor and celebrate the contributions America’s nurses have made in providing safe, high-quality care and their invaluable role in providing patient care every day, particularly in treating injured and sick patients during wartime, natural disasters, and public health emergencies, according to a summary provided by the lawmakers.

“Our health care system relies on the tireless service nurses provide every day, and I am grateful to everyone who works in this essential profession,” said Rep. Bonamici. “As co-chair of the Congressional Nursing Caucus, I’ll continue our work to provide nurses with the support they need and help more people enter the field.”
