Johnson to co-chair new Congressional Sustainable Aviation Caucus

U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD) will co-chair a new bipartisan congressional caucus that will focus on policies that reduce the aviation industry’s impact on the environment.

Rep. Johnson and fellow co-chair U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids (D-KS) announced the creation of the Congressional Sustainable Aviation Caucus on Monday. Caucus members expect to play an important role in expanding the use of new technologies in the aviation sector by holding forums that bring together public and private stakeholders and assessing federal policies that support environmental gains, fuel supply resiliency, and national security.

“The aviation industry is flying towards a more sustainable future. From sustainable aviation fuel to Advanced Air Mobility to hydrogen aviation, there are a lot of shifts we can expect to see in the coming years,” Rep. Johnson said. “Congress should advance legislative priorities that support innovation through biofuels, national security, and passenger safety.”

The caucus leadership noted that there are many initiatives in the works that would integrate technologies and solutions that strengthen fuel efficiency of aircraft that reduce emissions.

“Adopting these sustainable practices is critical for our national security and economic resilience,” Rep. Davids said. “I’m glad to join forces with Representative Johnson to ensure America’s aviation industry continues to be resilient and reliable for years to come.”
