Huizenga to lead U.S.-Canadian legislative group

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-MI) has been appointed to serve as co-chair of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group, which provides a forum for exchanges between American and Canadian legislators.

“The United States and Canada share a unique relationship that encompasses countless issues including our shared values, economic ties and security interests,” Rep. Huizenga said. “Whether it is working together on issues pertaining to the Great Lakes, trade, or reopening the border, I look forward to discussing these topics with our Canadian counterparts and advancing solutions that benefit both our nations.”

Rep. Huizenga joined U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins (D-NY) as new co-chairs of the group following their appointments on May 7 by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The Inter-Parliamentary Group is a coalition of elected leaders from both countries committed to advancing dialogue on policies of mutual interest, such as trade, border management, the Great Lakes, security, and economic opportunity, according to Rep. Huizenga’s staff.

The congressman also serves on the U.S. House Financial Services Committee and is the ranking member of its Capital Markets Subcommittee. Rep. Huizenga also serves as co-chair of the congressional Great Lakes Task Force.
