House Republicans release balanced budget that repeals Obamacare, slashes federal deficit

Republican members of the House Budget Committee released a budget blueprint for fiscal year 2017 on Tuesday that would repeal Obamacare, cut the deficit and spending, and reform entitlements.

Under the Fiscal Year 2017 Budget resolution, “A Balanced Budget for a Stronger America,” offered by House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-GA), the federal deficit would be cut by $7 trillion, government spending would be cut by $6.5 trillion, and the federal budget would balance in 10 years.

U.S Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), a member of the House Budget Committee, said that the budget vision put forth by House Republicans would set the nation in a fiscally responsible direction by balancing the budget without raising taxes.

“Like previous budgets proposed by House Republicans, I am pleased that the latest blueprint strengthens health and retirement programs, reforms the wasteful entitlement spending driving our debt and ultimately provides a better environment for job creation and economic growth,” Cole said. “As the nation’s debt continues to climb at a dangerous rate, time is not on our side. While Republicans have consistently recognized that difficult decisions must be made to slow down and pay down our debt, it will require bipartisan cooperation in the days ahead to make it reality.”

U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar (R-MI), a member of the House Budget Committee, said that with the national debt over $19 trillion, people are tired of government spending without regard for the future.

“I support the conservative budget released (on Tuesday) because it moves our country toward a sustainable fiscal future,” Moolenaar said. “The budget balances, keeps the promises that have been made to our seniors and improves our national security. It reduces spending in Washington and leaves more money where it belongs — in the pockets of hardworking Americans.”

Moolenaar added that he opposes President Barack Obama’s proposed budget, which may raise taxes on gasoline by 22 cents per gallon.
