The U.S. House of Representatives on March 21 approved a resolution led by U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) that denounces the energy and federal land policies of the Biden administration.
“I am proud to have brought this resolution to the floor alongside so many important pieces of legislation aimed at reversing the out-of-touch policies of this administration and getting our domestic production back on track,” Rep. Newhouse said.
House Resolution (H.Res.) 987, which passed the House on a 217-200 vote, also encourages the domestic production of reliable and affordable energy generation sources, according to the congressional record summary.
“President Biden’s war on American energy is not one fought over science, but over ideology,” said Rep. Newhouse. ”The United States is blessed with an abundance of natural resources and has the ability to achieve energy dominance. We can produce affordable, reliable, and clean energy here at home.”
Rep. Newhouse sponsored H.Res. 987 on Jan. 31 with 17 Republican original cosponsors, including U.S. Reps. Mike Carey (R-OH), Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), Carol Miller (R-WV), and Steve Womack (R-AR). It passed the full chamber with support from all members of House leadership, including U.S. Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN).
“We produce energy better than anywhere else in the world, and we lower costs, create jobs, and shore up our energy security while we do it,” said Rep. Scalise. “I’d like to thank Rep. Dan Newhouse for standing up for hardworking Americans and bringing forward this important resolution denouncing President Biden’s anti-American energy policies.”
“House Republicans won’t stand idly by while this administration’s radical climate agenda destroys American jobs, raises costs for families, stifles American energy production, and benefits our adversaries,” added Rep. Emmer.
