House approves Kinzinger’s bipartisan resolution supporting Three Seas Initiative

U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) applauded passage of his bipartisan resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives that would express America’s support of efforts by the Three Seas Initiative toward increased energy independence and infrastructure connectivity, action that in turn would bolster national security at home and in Europe.

“As a strong advocate for the independence and security of Europe’s energy markets, I’m proud to see our Three Seas resolution pass the House,” Rep. Kinzinger said. “While Russia hopes to hold our European allies hostage with their Nord Stream 2 pipeline, the Three Seas Initiative seeks to counter their malign influence.”

The congressman in October 2019 signed on as an original cosponsor with sponsor U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) of House Resolution (H.Res.) 672 in support of the Three Seas Initiative, a strategic partnership of 12 Central and Eastern European nations with the shared goals to collectively finance new infrastructure projects, increase connectivity between the Adriatic, Baltic, and Black Seas, and counter Russian and Chinese influences, according to a bill summary provided by Rep. Kinzinger’s office.

“The collaboration between Eastern European countries will help strengthen their regional interconnectivity to secure the energy markets of our most important partners,” said Rep. Kinzinger, who called it an “ambitious initiative” that has received bipartisan support, transatlantic support and support from the Trump administration.

The resolution, which the House approved on Nov. 18, includes 42 other bipartisan cosponsors and now moves to the U.S. Senate for action.
