Healthcare Leadership Council honors Lance

The Healthcare Leadership Council honored U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-NJ) with its Champion of Health Innovation recognition on Thursday for his work to promote medical innovation and affordable, patient-centered care.

Lance, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, has worked to extend the research and development tax credit and to delay the medical device tax over the last year.

“Health care innovation is one of the most important issues facing the Nation,” Lance said. “I am working in Washington to make health care more affordable for all patients and to keep care focused on their needs. I am also working to harness the type of innovation that will lead to the next big medical breakthrough. Our recent successes, from passing the 21st Century Cures Act and new cancer research legislation to postponing the onerous medical device tax and making permanent the critical research and development tax credit, are substantial victories for health care innovation. I thank the Healthcare Leadership Council for working with me in tackling the many great public health challenges.”

Additionally, Lance’s Breast Cancer Patient Education Act, H.R. 2540, was recently signed into law. The marks the fourth time a cancer-fighting bill that Lance has supported became law.

“That Congressman Lance is deserving of this honor is beyond question,” Mary R. Grealy, president of the Healthcare Leadership Council, said. “New Jersey is home to vibrant bioscience and medical technology companies that are transforming American healthcare, and Congressman Lance has led policy efforts that maintain the United States as the global center of medical innovation.  His leadership benefits his state as well as patients and consumers throughout the country.”
