Emmer helps secure federal infrastructure funding

Local elected and appointed officials in Minnesota last week thanked U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) for helping to secure millions in federal highway transportation funding for the state’s Sixth Congressional District.

“I am grateful for Congressman Emmer’s leadership and the Trump administration’s support for these critically important infrastructure projects that will improve safety for Anoka County motorists and help with overall traffic flow on Highway 10 and the North Metro,” said Minnesota State Rep. John Heinrich.

In June, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) awarded Anoka County, Minn., $40 million to construct two new county highway overpasses of U.S. Highway 10/169 and the parallel freight and commuter rail line. The DOT in September then awarded $15 million to Anoka for an infrastructure project to replace both the U.S. Highway 10 bridge over Rum River and the adjacent 4th Avenue bridge.

“The safety and traffic concerns along Highway 10 have been a major concern for local legislators for some time,” said State Rep. Peggy Scott. “We are grateful for Congressman Emmer’s efforts to secure this funding that will improve safety and provide a more efficient commute for those who travel this corridor.”

“It is wonderful that the Northwest Metro is finally getting these needed upgrades,” added State Sen. Jim Abeler. “Kudos to the leadership of the Emmer team and so many others who have worked on this for so long.”

Scott Schulte, chair of the Anoka County Board of Commissioners, also thanked Rep. Emmer for his efforts in urging the DOT to allocate this funding. “These integral interchanges and bridges in the City of Anoka will be much improved following the repairs and upgrades, in terms of safety and overall mobility,” he said.

Rep. Emmer applauded the Trump administration for its commitment to Minnesota infrastructure projects.

“I have long advocated for improvements to Highway 10, and now those improvements are becoming a reality,” Rep. Emmer said. “I am grateful to Secretary Chao and the Department of Transportation’s focus on our roads and bridges.”

Ramsey Mayor John LeTourneau and District 1 Anoka County Commissioner Matt Look also thanked Rep. Emmer for his continued leadership on this topic.
