Defense appropriations bill advances to Senate with Steil amendments

Rep. Bryan Steil

The U.S. House of Representatives on June 28 passed the massive Department of Defense Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2025, which includes three amendments offered by U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI).

“The amendments [to H.R. 8774] passed today will utilize Wisconsin research and manufacturing to help keep our service members safe,” Rep. Steil said on Friday.

Rep. Steil’s Amendment #155 would dedicate $10 million to munitions production capabilities. Amendment #156 would dedicate $10 million to allow the U.S. Department of Defense and American manufacturers to access test facilities that replicate radiation environments, subjecting chips and other components to conditions that could disrupt their operations.

Amendment #157 would dedicate $12 million to increase the capacity for imaging of energetics used for vital equipment like ejector seats on defense aircrafts, according to summaries provided by the congressman’s office.

SHINE Technologies and DSB Technologies, both in Wisconsin, supported the amendments offered by Rep. Steil.

“Wisconsin manufacturers are making critical investments in innovative and advanced technology used by our military,” said Rep. Steil. “These amendments ensure Wisconsin companies can continue investing in innovative, life-saving research here.”

H.R. 8774 advanced to the U.S. Senate following the House vote of 217-198.
