U.S. Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) last week sponsored a Republican-led bill that would prohibit states from receiving or using private funds or certain donations to administer an election for federal office.
“When Americans go to the ballot box, they should have full confidence in the election systems that are the bedrock of our great republic,” Rep. Cole said on April 27. “After a tumultuous 2020 election cycle and as we enter the 2024 presidential election cycle, it is clear that this confidence has taken a hit.”
The congressman introduced the Protect American Election Administration Act, H.R. 2934, with eight GOP original cosponsors, including U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), to protect individual states’ voting laws and prevent the use of election infrastructure to conduct ideologically motivated voter outreach campaigns, according to a bill summary provided by Rep. Cole’s staff.
“The Protect American Election Administration Act would prevent political agendas funded by private dollars from interfering with individual states’ non-partisan voting processes and ensure Americans have the confidence that their vote truly counts,” said Rep. Cole.
H.R. 2934 has been referred to the U.S. House Administration Committee for consideration.
