Burgess leads resolution supporting DVT, pulmonary embolism awareness

U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) has sponsored a bipartisan resolution to support the goals and ideals of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism Awareness Month, a public health initiative held every March aimed at raising awareness about DVT, a commonly occurring medical condition, and its potentially fatal complication, pulmonary embolism.

“DVT impacts nearly a million Americans each year, with close to 100,000 Americans losing their life due to a blood clot,” Rep. Burgess said. “By recognizing Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism Awareness Month, we can hopefully raise awareness to help prevent further blood clot related deaths.”

Rep. Burgess introduced House Resolution 214 on March 9 with three original cosponsors, including lead original cosponsor U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE).

“Like many Americans, I’ve lost a loved one due to blood clots and this issue is deeply personal to me,” said Rep. Blunt Rochester. “That’s why I’m proud to join Rep. Burgess and my other colleagues in recognition of Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism Awareness Month to help raise awareness and, ultimately, save lives.”

The resolution has been referred to the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee for consideration.
