Boustany announces satellite offices to assist residents’ flood relief efforts

U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA) announced on Friday that he would open satellite offices around Louisiana’s third congressional district to help aid residents’ flood recovery efforts.

Beginning Monday, Boustany opened satellite offices in Abbeville, Crowley, New Iberia and Youngsville. Boustany’s permanent offices in Lafayette and Lake Charles were also to remain open to serve residents’ flood recovery efforts.

“As our state rebuilds from this historic flood, Louisianans will need help dealing with federal agencies to receive disaster assistance,” Boustany said. “Our office is here to help. I encourage anyone who is having difficulty filing a claim or receiving necessary assistance to contact my office so we can get to work on your behalf.”

Boustany also announced on Friday that the Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration had awarded $2 million to help repair roads and bridges damaged in the flooding.

“In the aftermath of this week’s historic flooding, repairing washed out roads and highways is vital to getting Louisianans back on their feet,” Boustany said. “As floodwaters recede, this funding will ensure our state can repair damaged surface infrastructure. I’ll continue making sure Louisiana has the necessary resources to rebuild.”

Boustany called on the Obama administration last week to issue federal disaster declarations for a number of parishes in Louisiana. In response, the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) issued federal disaster declarations to Acadia, Ascension, East Feliciana, Iberia, Lafayette, Pointe Coupee, St. Landry and Vermillion parishes.

“For residents in these parishes, FEMA’s disaster declaration comes with the relief that help is on the way,” Boustany said. “But more work needs to be done. I will continue working with my congressional colleagues, Gov. John Bel Edwards, and other state and local officials to ensure Louisiana residents have all the help they need to get back on their feet.”
