Bipartisan Counseling for Career Choice Act sponsored by Thompson

U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) on Feb. 15 led a bipartisan bill that would invest in career counseling services to help more K-12 students get information and advice about the range of career and technical education (CTE) options for their future.

“Empowering students with the tools to succeed starts with making well-informed decisions,” Rep. Thompson said. “By equipping school counselors with the resources and training they need, we can help close our nation’s skills gap and put learners of all ages in the driver’s seat of their futures.”

Rep. Thompson sponsored the Counseling for Career Choice Act, H.R. 7395, which would expand K-12 career counseling services to provide more resources focused on financial literacy, registered apprenticeships, dual enrollment programs, internships, and financing for college or other postsecondary education, according to a bill summary provided by the congressman’s staff.

H.R. 7395 is cosponsored by U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), who along with Rep. Thompson co-chairs the Congressional CTE Caucus.

“For students to thrive, they need information about all of the available career and education opportunities,” said Rep. Bonamici. “I’m pleased to introduce this bipartisan legislation with my colleague Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson.”

H.R. 7395 has garnered support from the National Career Development Association, the Association for Career and Technical Education, Advance CTE, the American School Counselors Association, the School Superintendents Association, the National Association of Workforce Boards, and the American Counseling Association.
