U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) joined her Republican colleagues on July 20 to introduce legislation that would prohibit federal funds from being provided to foreign firms sanctioned or blacklisted by the United States.
“It is unconscionable that the Biden administration has enabled the Chinese Communist Party to rake in cash from American taxpayers,” Sen. Blackburn said in a statement. “Rather than letting Joe Biden award grants or sign federal contracts that undermine the United States, I am cosponsoring legislation to cut our adversaries off.”
Sen. Blackburn is an original cosponsor of the Turn Off Federal Funding of Threatening Entities that Thwart American Prosperity Act, also known as the Turn OFF THE TAP Act, S. 4569, which is sponsored by U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and fellow original cosponsor U.S. Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL).
If enacted, S. 4569 specifically would prohibit federal funds from going to firms listed on several federal blacklists, including the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Entity List and the Non-SDN Chinese Military-Industrial Complex Companies List, according to the text of the bill.
This also would include any company or person that produces communications equipment or services on a list maintained by the Federal Communications Commission that poses an unacceptable risk to the national security of the U.S. or the security and safety of America, the text says.
“The White House needs to stop emboldening the New Axis of Evil and start putting America first,” added Sen. Blackburn.
