Barr’s amendment supporting Army readiness training adopted by House

The U.S. House of Representatives on June 18 adopted an amendment offered by U.S. Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY) as a part of the defense appropriations bill.

Rep. Barr’s Amendment No. 26 would increase funding for operations and maintenance for the U.S. Army, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard by $2 million each to be used for training support to improve readiness.

“It is essential we support training and coordination between all components of our Armed Forces and I was proud to advocate for this important increased funding which will allow active duty Army personnel to more frequently advise, assist and train with Guard and Reserve units on drill weekends to ensure both are meeting the same levels of readiness,” Rep. Barr said.

The House voted to pass the amendment, which was cosponsored by U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY) as part of a package of amendments to the defense appropriations bill, H.R. 2740, that the House passed on June 19.

“As the Representative for Kentucky’s National Guard Headquarters, I thank my colleagues for adopting this important funding increase that will directly benefit Kentucky Guardsmen and Reservists and I especially thank my colleague, Congressman Guthrie, for cosponsoring this amendment,” said Rep. Barr.

The larger bill now heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
