U.S. Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) and 34 other House lawmakers signed a letter sent to Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) on Friday, asking him to schedule and debate an Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF), as the U.S. commits more resources against ISIS in Syria.
U.S. Reps. Jim McGovern (D-MA), Barbara Lee (D-CA),Walter Jones (R-NC), Peter Welch (D-VT) and John Lewis (D-GA) joined Cole in writing the letter.
“We do not share the same policy prescriptions for U.S. military engagement in the region, but we do share the belief that it is past time for the Congress to fulfill its obligations under the Constitution and vote on an AUMF that clearly delineates the authority and limits, if any, on U.S. military engagement in Iraq, Syria and the surrounding region,” the lawmakers wrote.
The letter urged Ryan to bring an AUMF to the House floor as quickly as possible.
