U.S. Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA), along with Catoctin Creek Distilling Co. founder Scott Harris and Orbital ATK, Inc., CEO David Thompson, released a statement on Tuesday praising House passage of a bill to reauthorize the U.S. Export-Import Bank, which they said will result in more jobs for the region and the nation.
“I am pleased to have voted for this jobs legislation today so that America may continue to compete globally against our foreign competitors,” Comstock said. “We received strong support from constituents for this legislation. The reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank means more economic growth and prosperity for the entire region, whether it is distilling spirits at Catoctin Creek Distillery in Purcellville or building satellites at Orbital ATK in Dulles.”
Comstock also said that between 2007 and 2015, the Export-Import Bank financed or insured $2 billion in exports for 125 companies in Virginia.
“At a near-zero risk to taxpayers, these loans promote growth in businesses of all sizes and generate much-needed revenue for the U.S. Treasury,” Comstock said. “In this time of economic hardship, where the job growth in Virginia is anemic, we must provide American businesses with the tools needed to thrive in an ever-competitive global market. Passage of this bill saves and creates American jobs.”
