Shuster calls for passage of surface-transportation funding extension

U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA), chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, issued a statement on Monday regarding introduction of the bipartisan Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2015.

H.R. 3819 extends funding authorization for federal highway and transit programs through Nov. 20 and also extends the deadline for implementation of positive train control (PTC) technology past Jan. 1, 2016.

“We look forward to voting on that bill in the House soon and then going to conference with the Senate on their highway bill,” Shuster said. “I am confident that we can resolve the differences between the House and Senate measures, and produce a final product that’s good for our nation’s infrastructure.”

Shuster also stressed the PTC deadline must be extended to prevent disruptions to passenger and freight services nationwide.

This extension will
allow the highway-bill process to continue moving forward without
shutting down transportation programs and projects across the country,” Shuster said.
