U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) lashed out at Democrats after submitting his vote this week in favor of the resolution to disapprove of President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.
The item would have required 60 votes to proceed, but failed to meet that mark due to a filibuster by Democrats.
“The American people deserve to know where their elected representatives stand on this monumental issue,” Wicker, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said. “Instead, Senate Democrats are going to great procedural lengths to avoid a direct up-or-down vote on this dangerous agreement.”
A total of 42 Democratic senators, who are in support of the passage of the Iranian nuclear deal, organized the partisan filibuster, which stalled the vote on the resolution.
“At this critical moment, we should remain resolute in our goal to deny Iran the ability to obtain a nuclear weapon,” Wicker said. “The United States needs to go back to the drawing board and work toward a better deal. We need an agreement that reinforces U.S. leadership and global security, not one that risks facilitating Iran’s dangerous nuclear aims.”
Wicker has served in the U.S. Senate since 2007.
